I am helping find the right home, rescue, or trainer placement for a male Golden Retriever who is almost 3 years old. The goal is not a quick placement but the right placement with someone who understands dogs and is willing to work with him.
He is affectionate, intelligent, and enjoys attention from his people. Like many young retrievers, he has a lot of energy and does best with structure, activity, and consistent leadership.
Unfortunately, he did not have the best start early in life and was separated from his litter far too young. Because of that and some limitations in his current environment, he has developed a few behavioral challenges that will require an experienced owner.
Important things to know:
• He has had a bite incident involving a maintenance worker that resulted in a puncture wound. (no blood)
• He has shown some resource guarding with food or high-value items.
• He has limited experience with other dogs
• He should be placed in a home without young children.
He has been neutered and his current owner has worked with both a veterinarian and a trainer. He is healthy and has potential, but he needs someone who understands training, management, and the needs of an active working-type retriever.
The ideal home would be:
• an experienced dog owner
• a trainer or behavior-savvy handler
• a rescue familiar with behavioral cases
• a home with space and time to provide exercise and structure
This is not a “bad dog.” He is a dog who needs stability, guidance, and someone willing to invest time in helping him succeed.
Please only reach out if you have experience working with dogs who need structure and behavioral guidance. Sharing this post may help him find the experienced home he deserves ❦

❦ In the first 24 hours with Bingo, one thing is already clear — this boy is a total love bug.
He has been introduced to all of my dogs, some together and some separately, and he has done beautifully. The only thing I’ve noticed is that he doesn’t want people in his face while he’s eating, which honestly is understandable. Other than that, he has shown zero aggression toward me, my husband, or any of the dogs.
For reference, my pack includes seniors, adults, young adults, and older puppies, so he has already been around a wide mix of personalities and energy levels.
Bingo is crate trained, potty trained, playful, and loves to run. Right now, he seems to prefer not to roughhouse with my crew, which is completely understandable considering the alleged attack at the bark park. What I am seeing instead is a dog with submissive behavior, a gentle spirit, and a sweet nature. He even jumps up to give you the cutest little stretch hug.
He is seriously one of the sweetest boys.
At this point, I can honestly say I am not seeing any of the behavior his previous owner described.

I wanted to share another update on Bingo now that he has had a little more time to settle in.
At 48 hours in, he is still doing incredibly well.
He is eating great, potty trained really well, and sleeping soundly in his crate overnight. That alone tells me a lot about how much he is starting to decompress and feel safe.
He is also starting to show more of his playful side with the humans, which has been really nice to see. He is not quite ready to play with the furry crew yet, but I do not blame him for that at all. This is still a big adjustment, and with a large group of dogs here, I think he is still figuring out what feels safe and comfortable.
What I continue to see is a sweet, gentle boy who wants love, structure, and reassurance. The more time he has to breathe and settle, the more his real personality is starting to come through.
I am so thankful that Grand Strand GRR - GSGRR is stepping in to help with placement for Bingo. He deserves the right home, the right environment, and the chance to keep becoming the dog I can already see in there.
Sometimes dogs just need a chance to exhale before they can show you who they really are.
